With an exciting award ceremony on July 20th, Robot World Cup (RoboCup), the world’s most renowned robotics competition made the closure successfully. More than 2200 students of 50+ leagues from 33 counties participated this week-long event. Kyle Johns, developer from Microsoft Robotics Group, came to Suzhou for on-site organization. 2 University Relation members from China also spent 3 days in Suzhou, talking with experts, faculty members and students especially those from China to explore faculties’ interests and opportunities to help MSRS adoption in academic.

 

Microsoft Robotics Sponsorship on RoboCup

At 2007 Atlanta RoboCup Microsoft Robotics sponsored Microsoft Challenge soccer match using Microsoft Robotics Studio physics-based 3D simulation environment. WrightEagle from USTC, China won the championship.

This year Microsoft robotics team worked with Aldebaran, a French company providing humanoid Robot “Nao”, and launched Simulated Nao RoboCup based on Microsoft Robotics Studio. 5 leagues participated this track. The winners are as following:

1st Place: Kouretes - Technical University of Crete, Greece

2nd Place: TsinghuAelous – Tsinghua University, China

3rd Place: WrightEagle – USTC, China

UR Engagement

From last winter, UR’s efforts on robotics topic focused on indentifying influential professors and engaging key faculties. During Tandy’s trip to Beijing last winter, UR arranged meeting with Prof. Tong from Northeastern University and visit to Prof. Sun’s lab in Tsinghua University. 3 Faculty Specific projects on Robotics funded by UR are on-going.
